Since the development of the State's Solid Waste Management Plan in 1991, communities in the state have made significant progress in providing recycling services. Unfortunately, there are some residents, businesses and towns in the state that still don't have access to recycling services.
The purpose of these recycling summits is to determine local perception about recycling, identify community needs to strengthen recycling services and to identify barriers to enhance recycling services in communities. These meetings are the first phase in a multi-phased project for developing a strategic plan to improve the recycling infrastructure in Nebraska. This will not only conserve resources but also create much-needed jobs for our state's economy.
